On April 25, a magnitude-7.8 earthquake shook Kathmandu and the surrounding area. To support our local partner organization (SASS), we have - as an extraordinary measure - released funds for emergency help for victims of the quake. This support allowed SASS to send trucks carrying more than six tons of rice and 200 tents to the devastated region of Dolakha. These trucks traveled under police protection to prevent theft of the supplies.
We also need to make repairs to the Sagarmatha center and have a specialist inspect the center’s old building. Some of the children live there, and the earthquake left the building with many cracks. We know that we can expect the earth to keep shaking across the region in the months and even the years to come.
